I wasn’t cool enough to make a mix tape.
I never knew what songs to put on it
To tell you how much I wanted You,
Needed You,
Baaaaaabyyyy!
(You’re supposed to sing that last line like you mean it.)
I made radio shows with my cousin,
Cracking jokes and doing voices
That made us laugh, just like the morning shows
I’d listen to before I went to school to get my heart
Broken by the turn of your ribbon-bound ponytail.
So I learned to be funny instead of cool
An actor instead of a player
Holding for laughs, instead of
Your probably really soft hand.
Charm is awkwardness
Aged in acceptance
I’m just glad she found the vintage
I turned out to be.
